Frictional damping in hollow beam structures joined by bolts, rivets, and adhesive

چکیده
The objective of this work was to investigate how different joining techniques affect the level damping in structures. Beams were constructed from four techniques, bolting, riveting, adhesive bonding, and brazing by two lengths steel each with a ‘U’-shaped cross-section. They joined such that edges ‘U’ overlapped form tube. beam determined flexural vibration. bolted had series bolts along its length. effect removing investigated. It found increased damping. When removed successively holes at end beam, more than when middle beam. A further project introducing penetrant between surfaces. WD-40 introduced contacting surfaces for beams mechanical fastening. increasing This may be because has relative displacement beams, leading greater energy dissipation. Introducing also changed order which greatest damping, now having riveted bolt tension on dry, reduced but comparison properties made. conclusions could applied industry engineers constructing similar fashion.

Manipulating Standard and Inverse Chladni Patterns by Modulating Adhesive, Frictional, and Damping Forces
Particles on a plate form Chladni patterns when the plate is acoustically excited. To better understand these patterns and their possible real-world applications, I present a new analytical and numerical study of the transition between standard and inverse Chladni patterns on an adhesive surface at any magnitude of acceleration. By spatial autocorrelation analysis, I examine the effects of surf...

1. The photogate, connected with the Smart Timer was set across the Main Platter, with one strip of paper taped to block the photogateonce in every revolution. The photogate was set in the Time Fence. The mass of the Main Platter M(kg) and radius of the Main Platter and its pulleys were measured with mass balance and vernier callipers. Then a string, with one end tied to a hanger with a 100 g m...
متن کاملFrictional and elastic energy in gecko adhesive detachment.
Geckos use millions of adhesive setae on their toes to climb vertical surfaces at speeds of over 1 m s(-1). Climbing presents a significant challenge for an adhesive since it requires both strong attachment and easy, rapid removal. Conventional pressure-sensitive adhesives are either strong and difficult to remove (e.g. duct tape) or weak and easy to remove (e.g. sticky notes). We discovered th...
متن کاملIdentification of Dynamic Damping Properties of a Flexible Structural Adhesive
In this paper dynamic damping properties of a nominated flexible structural adhesive have been identified using an extended-direct modal based joint identification method. It has been revealed that damping characteristics of adhesive are correlated to both frequency and mode shape. Young’s and shear moduli increase with frequency but damping on the other hand, decrease. The results showed that ...
متن کاملEffect of thermoelastic damping in nonlinear beam model of MEMS resonators by differential quadrature method
This paper presents a nonlinear model of a clamped-clamped microbeam actuated by an electrostatic load with stretching and thermoelastic effects. The frequency of free vibration is calculated by discretization based on the Differential Quadrature (DQ) Method. The frequency is a complex value due to the thermoelastic effect that dissipates energy. By separating the real and imaginary parts of fr...
